New Works by Nancy K. Betty

Opening Reception during the First Friday Art Walk

Friday, October 7th, 6 - 9 pm

Artist's Statement:

I find the inspiration for my paintings in the natural world and take pleasure in the atmospheric conditions that allow nature to show us her infinite variety.

I paint primarily in oils, layering pigment to enhance the depth of the image.  With a contemporary approach, I paint the texture of the trees or the dynamic energy of clouds to allow the viewer to draw their own conclusion as to the place or the weather occurrence presented.  Motivated by the efforts of the Museum of Natural history, I have begun to explore the environment in pollinator gardens and their visitors.

About the Artist:

A native to Ashville, NC, Nancy K. Betty and her family have lived in North Carolina and Florida throughout most of her career.

In 1999, she and her husband walked away from life on land and took to the water, living on a 43-foot sailboat in the islands.  The impact of the endless skyscapes she saw while sailing can be seen in many of her cloud paintings.

Nancy studied at Ringling College of Art and Design and participated in artist’s residencies including Vermont Studio Center, and has studied with many noted artists.  She currently lives in Gainesville, Florida, and paints full time under the live oaks at her barn/studio on the family farm off of Millhopper Road.  A happy day has horses looking in the window to critique her work.  For inspiration and studies, she can often be found painting in the forests and springs of north central Florida, in the low county of South Carolina, or up in the mountains of her native North Carolina.

Her works can be found in private collections throughout the US.
